Growing Green Bean

This is advice is most applicable to growers in the UK, you may need to adjust the timings if you live somewhere with a different climate and/or seasons.

February Start seeds indoors, Sow green bean seeds indoors in pots or trays, using a good quality compost.
March Continue starting seeds indoors, Continue sowing green bean seeds indoors in pots or trays, 2-3 weeks before the last frost.
April Plant out seedlings, Begin direct sowing, Plant out seedlings after the last frost and start direct sowing in prepared soil outdoors.
May Direct sow, Provide support, Direct sow green beans outdoors and provide support, such as poles or trellis, for climbing varieties.
June Monitor growth, Monitor the growth of your green beans and ensure they have adequate support as they climb.
July Harvest, Harvest green beans when they reach the desired size, usually about the thickness of a pencil.
August Continue harvesting, Regularly harvest green beans to encourage more production and prevent the beans from becoming too large and tough.
September Harvest remaining beans, Harvest any remaining beans before the plants begin to die back due to colder temperatures.
